Height, Weight, & Build
Thomas is very short, standing at 5”5. He weighs around 131 pounds, and is lean and lightly muscled, making him not quite physically pathetic.
Eyes & Hair
Thom has brown, nearly black eyes that are remarkably wide and bright, aided by prescription contact lenses. His hair is dark brown and slightly coarse, and he wears it in a neat ponytail the reaches down to his shoulder blades.
Nationality
Thomas is German on his father’s side and Rwandan on his mother’s. His skin is a light, smooth brown, like chocolate milk.
Usual Attire
Thomas likes to look reasonably well dressed, a habit from his private school days. He hates to wear plain T-shirts, so you’ll usually find him in one of his many white dress shirts and a tie (of which he has over 50 in different colors and styles), along with clean blue jeans and worn-out gray Nikes.
Distinguishing Features
Thom doesn’t really have many distinguishing features besides a mostly unnoticeable scar running from his chin to his lower lip from an unfortunate attempt at “Kochen wie Vati” (“Cooking like Dad”) as a child. Six-year olds should not be allowed near cucumbers and sharp knives at the same time.

Quirks
Thom aims to someday own a tie from every country in Europe.
He only drinks soy milk because he is creeped out by cow udders, and can’t really stand the thought of drinking something that comes out of them.
As a game, Thomas likes to make up names and histories for random strangers on the street.
Dislikes
Dogs. He says that he’s “just a cat person,” but dogs terrify him, except for the small ones. He simply finds the small ones irritating.
Messy hair. He has a sort of OCD thing about this. His hair is constantly combed and tied neatly back with an elastic.
Glasses. His eyesight is horrible, but would rather have nothing to help him see than wear glasses. He hates the way they “pinch” his nose.
Animal cruelty. Thomas is a huge softie when it comes to cats, and coos over them like babies, especially his, Greta and Loretta.
Pop music. He finds it meaningless.
English. School English classes were always a struggle for Thom; he likes clean-cut facts, not figurative language and whatnot; ideas that cannot be cleanly explained with one answer baffle him.
Milk. Like mentioned earlier: udders = creepy.
Electric lights. He finds them too harsh and unnatural.
Board games. “Why else would they be called ‘bored’ games?”
War. It sounds clichéd, but because of his mother’s history in Rwanda and its violence, he is actually sort of a budding advocate for peace, often joining protests against war and things of that nature.
Likes
Comedy. Thomas has a passion for stand-up and idolizes those who make a career of it, and hopes to do so himself someday
Cats. He likes the way they look at you like they’re about to kill you, strangely enough. He likes to think that he has an intellectual match with an animal.
Mathematics. He likes its clean-cut neatness, how each answer is either right or wrong, with no space in between.
Mornings. Thomas always got up early and sat on the porch with his dad, so he always appreciates the early hours and their beauty.
Classical music. It soothes him, and he appreciates that there is a meaning in music without any words.
Trains. He is obsessed mechanics and engineering that powers such a massive machine and how they changed history all over the world. He melts whenever he sees one, and his
Mothers. Even though he never had his, he always wished that he did. Who wouldn’t? His father’s wonderful stories about the woman enthrall him, and he probably thinks much more highly of her than he should. But who could speak ill of the dead? Not his quiet father, especially not about the woman he loves.
Angels. Thomas likes to say that he is an atheist because, well, it sounds impressive, but deep down he relies on angels for all good things.
Company. Thomas loves being around other people (and making them laugh), even with the overwhelming and maddening flow of feelings in crowds.
Soda. He seriously might be addicted to orange Fresca. It is his life source.
Strengths
Compassion and understanding. With his empathy, Thomas usually has a better grasp of why people do the things they do and is less judgmental than most because of it. Instead of passing a drunken homeless man without even a glance, he’ll feel the man’s pure despair and catch a glimpse of his dark inner workings, and pass him a nickel.
A sense of humor. Thomas can make a joke about almost anything, and takes joy in doing so, especially when it eases tension and helps a situation.
Not afraid to speak up for his views. Like mentioned earlier, Thom is something of an anti-war pro-gay-rights everything else advocate, often joining in sit-ins and protests around the nearby Washington D.C.
Loyalty. Once you are Thom’s friend, you are Thom’s friend, almost no matter what you do. Fall into addiction? No problem. Go to jail? He’s till by your side. But if you hurt his feelings or are cruel to him in any way, the bye-bye, you are no longer considered a friend. He expects the same loyalty back from you.
Good at giving advice. Thomas’s empathy also helps in reading a situation and giving out friendly advice to those who need it.
Weaknesses
Crowds. His empathy is useless in highly populated/crowded areas. In large crowds, it is impossible to distinguish one person’s feelings from another’s, and it becomes sort of an annoying buzzing in the back of his skull even when he represses it.
A need for acceptance. Thomas’s love to make people laugh; on one hand, he likes to make people happy, but on the other, its because he wants people to like him, and constantly second-guesses the legitimacy of his friendships.
Physical strength. He’s pretty weak, plain and simple. He wouldn’t stand much of a chance in a fistfight, although he is a good runner.
Sensitive. Any insult, big or small, can absolutely tear Thom apart. He hates it when people dislike him for a reason that he cannot surmise, and even the tiniest insults are blown way out of proportion is his mind. He is completely obsessive.
Gives advice when it is not wanted. Even as good as his advice may usually be, even he can make mistakes, and can’t really tell when people do not want advice at all.
Personality
There is an Exterior and Interior Thomas; two versions that of the same person that are completely different. While Exterior Thomas is a funny, offbeat, quick-to-laugh friend, Interior Thomas is oddly philosophical about life and death and is riddled with insecurities about his relationships. He can be secretive and is not usually willing to share what is going on inside his head without a joke to mask it, so he often seems like whatever comes out of his mouth is irrelevant, even if it was meant to be serious. This causes it to be difficult to get truly close to anyone, although his undeniably quirky and magnetic personality earns him many friends and acquaintances.
Inwardly, Thomas can actually be quite serious, and often ponders topics such as life and death in his own curt, scientific way. He has come to the conclusion that if someone wants to cease their life themselves, then they can, because is it their life. Although he would not kill himself (he is a chicken), he has thought about the possibility, and has come to the conclusion that it is not the right path for him. As mentioned earlier, he likes things to be clean-cut.
you will never ever, ever make me

Family
Father- Caspar Ferdinand Bauer.
Mother- Apolline Sauda Bizimani.
Thomas is an only child.
Caspar Bauer met his wife, Rwandan born Apolline Bizimani, in Germany following the 1994 Rwandan genocide that forced her to relocate to Europe. She had only a shaky grasp of the German language, and Caspar agreed to tutor her in the language, since he was a schoolteacher. One year later, they were married and had a child, Thomas Freud Bauer. However, he was premature by nearly a month, and was born sickly and underweight. He pulled through, but Apolline was damaged internally from the extremely difficult labor and died after undetected internal bleeding killed her. Caspar never remarried and is extremely close to Thomas. Now his father works at a private high school in D.C., teaching German, and Thomas is but a student there with no memory of his mother.
History
After his violent, sad birth in Germany, he lived in Berlin for the next ten years with his chronically melancholy father. When his father decided to move to America because he felt that Thomas was too “closed off” to the world, ten-year-old Thomas was devastated. He loved Germany, but it was no use to argue with his father. Thomas arrived in the United States without knowing a word of English, and he and his father settled in a tiny Virginia town, only a few miles away from Washington D.C. where his father would become a schoolteacher. His only mementoes from his homeland were his clothes and his two aging cats, two tortoiseshells named Greta and Loretta. Thomas certainly got many stares, with his darker skin not matching his father’s pale complexion, and for two years only speaking in what most people thought if as gibberish. He had a basic grasp of English in one, but he was embarrassed that he “sounded like an immigrant,” and in an attempt to assimilate into American society, he waited until he was confident enough to speak English full-time. His first words in his new language were spoken to his father; “Vati, I think I know English yet!”
“Not quite,” was his father’s reply.
He spent those five years going to a prestigious private school in D.C., where his exemplary skill in science and mathematics earned him a scholarship. He doesn’t exactly like school in general, and could sometimes be seen talking to the Abraham Lincoln Memorial when he was supposed to be in class. It always seemed to be alive to him. However, he didn’t know about his powers then, and what moods he thought he sensed from the statue really came from tourists and visitors to the memorial. He eventually figured out that something was strange about him, but never really considered that he could be bipolar until the people from the Lyle House came and picked him up. His doubts were once again dissipated when he realized what they were really up to there. Lately, Thomas has been making plans to stir things up a bit, and very possibly start a plan that Mr. Davidoff would not exactly… appreciate.

Abilities
Empathy- Thomas can feel the basic emotions and intentions of those around him. It is not usually overwhelming, and even without the medication he can tune it out pretty well. He can also, with a great amount of energy, project his own feelings into others’ subconscious to lightly steer them to his own will.
Diagnosed Disease
Bipolar disorder
Connection
Thomas no longer feels much of anyone else's emotions or projects his onto them. He may however, feel another's emotions if they are strong, such as someone who is really excited or very upset.
